FINANCIAL LITERACY PROGRAM

The campaign to create financial discipline to honour Her Majesty Queen Sirikit’s seventh cycle birthday on 12th August 2016

BWP Thailand together with 5 associate enterprises, both public and private partnership, created a campaign to raise awareness of financial discipline.

Most of the 40 million Thai people have debt problems.  One reason is lack of financial discipline, that is caused by inadequate planning and saving of money, followed by debts.  This causes families and organisations problems.  When several problems add up in many families, this impacts the country’s economic and social development.  Therefore, BWP Thailand and 5 associate organisations, in both the public and private sectors, have formed a project to create the required financial discipline.  Its’aim is to reduce the problem of personal loans and liabilities in households.  This will mitigate the social impacts at various levels by cultivating and creating values of financial discipline in families.

Participation

To celebrate Her Majesty Queen Sirikit’s auspicious birthday, 7th anniversary celebration on 12th August 2016, the Federal Association of Business and Professional Women of Thailand or BPW Thailand has cooperated with 5 organisations.  They are the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, the Stock Exchange of Thailand, the Thai Chamber of Commerce, the Thai Bankers Association and the National Council for Child and Youth under the Royal Patronage of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.

Creating a corporate pilot project named the “Campaign of Financial Discipline, to honour Her Majesty Queen Sirikit’s Seventh Cycle Birthday on 12th August 2016” will be a model template of a trend for other organisations both in public and private sectors, especially for women, to start a similar campaign in their work place.

How to

This campaign will apply the mentoring approach.  Learners will accept wisdom and advice from the organisation.  The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) will be a leader of learning, training and giving guidance.  SET is ready to support and prepare manuals and training of the “Happy Money:  Ways to Deal with Money Stress” to the women’s groups of associate partners across the country.

A plan for money spending, debt management and an appreciation of the benefits will lead to financial awareness.  Modify spending habits properly and bring the immunity of strong financial savings to achieve life goals.  It will enable associate partners to create the right spending habits. The appropriate investments and savings will also reduce financial distress in the work force and finally create the efficiency and effectiveness of corporate sustainability.
